Public Innovation ⋅ Civic Technology

Hi, I’m Nneka ☺

I shape technology that transforms cities, guided by community imagination.

I am an urban designer and civic technologist who creates technology that makes the systems powering our cities more equitable and inclusive to everyday people, especially those who have historically been underserved by those systems. My work intersects urban planning, product innovation, and design research, turning complex urban systems into user-friendly platforms.

As the Deputy Director of New York City’s Innovation Team (i-Team), I work alongside a brilliant team to develop and implement transformative programs and tools that improve how local government serves the needs of historically-excluded communities. Before joining NYC’s i-Team, I was Assistant Director of Product Development at Cornell Tech’s Urban Tech Hub, Product Manager at NYC Planning Labs and Co-Founder of a civic tech startup. The tools I have managed have been featured in BBC, Bloomberg Philanthropies’ “Follow The Data”, and GovTech

I hold a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a BA in Urban Planning from Virginia Tech.

In my studio, I engage in (de)constructing technology, inspired by architect Cedric Price's question:

This provocation drives me to look beyond the outputs of technology. My practice examines the 'why' and 'how' of urban systems that are impacted by technology.
